WORKSHOP: Handling Techniques

Puppy Kindergarten

Puppy Kindergarten I for puppies up to 12 months. We emphasize on the benefits of early socialization and focus on puppy issues. We also do an informal introduction of basic commands.

Puppy Kindergarten II is for puppies that have completed PK I. This class will continue on with a more in-depth introduction to basic obedience commends, continue socialization and continue to focus on puppy issues.

Obedience/Agility Combinations

Basic Obedience/Agility II Combination (CONTINUATION) is for the handler and dogs who have been introduced to control and Basic obedience skill. In this class we will work with handler and dogs that would like to expand their refinement of performance with obedience skills. The other half of the class will be working on basic agility commands/obstacles.

Competition Level Agility

Advanced Handling –  Dogs should be currently competing.  It will address more advanced handling skills and will continue to mold the communication necessary to make the dog/handler team a success.  We will be working open/excellent and advanced/masters level courses.

Advanced Handling – This is for dogs trialing at the open level or higher, or with instructor approval.  Contact me if you are not sure if this is the class for you. Advanced Agility/Competition Topics - This class is for dogs who have successfully completed Advanced/Foundation Skills and are competing in agility trials. Each week varies based on the needs of the human-dog teams in the class; some weeks we may run full courses while other weeks we may work on specific problems that students are experiencing at trials.

Advanced Agility Foundations- This class concentrates on development of a handling system to master essential course patterns.  Dogs must be able to sequence at least 5 obstacles and must be able to perform all equipment.  Skills drills are the primary focus of this class.

Advanced Beginner - This class is for dogs who have been introduced to agility and the equipment previously. We will be focusing on teaching obstacle performance and basic handling skills. Motivation, focus and attention, obedience, self-control and other skills necessary to play agility will also be high priority.

Beginner/Foundation Skills - Class for dogs new to agility. Introduction to obstacles and handling maneuvers with safety and fun in mind. Teach focus and attention, obedience, play/drive work, self-contol and other skills necessary to play agility. Dogs must be at least six months old.

Competition Class - This class is open to dogs currently competing. Challenges for every dog and handler team. Work on perfecting timing and execution of handling cues. Proof obstacle performance and learn to find the best path through a course for you and your dog.

Intermediate Handling - This class is for the dog-handler teams that were in this time slot in the previous session. It is for dogs that are not yet trialing but are preparing to trial or dogs early in their trialing career. In this session we will look at increasing the length and complexity of the sequences.  The class will build upon skills developed in the last session. Requirement:  Dogs should be comfortable with all equipment and have attended class with Donna in the past or have instructor approval.

Master Handling - The handling techniques continue to increase in complexity.  Courses and sequences will be at the Excellent/Masters Level and will challenge teams to find the best handling moves to run the sequences in the most efficient/aggressive manner.  Requirements:  Dogs should be running at the Masters/Excellent B level or have instructor approval.
